Deutsch: 16.04.2010 04720 Döbeln: Die Nicolaikirche (GMP: 51.122123,13.124536) geht auf eine ab 1333 errichtete frühgotische Basilika zurück. 1479-1485 wird sie zur spätgotischen Hallenkirche umgebaut. Mit der gewaltigen Höhe von über zwölf Metern beherrscht der Flügelaltar den Raum. Das funkelnde Schmuckstück wurde 1515/16 von einem Freiberger Bildschnitzer geschaffen; die Gemälde malte ein namentlich nicht bekannter Cranachschüler, der als "Meister des Döbelner Hochaltars" bezeichnet wird. Der Flügelaltar kann zweimal " gewandelt" werden. Die Hauptseite mit den mächtigen geschnitzten Figuren ist nur zwischen Ostern und Pfingsten sowie zu Weihnachten geöffnet. Im Mittelschrein sieht man den heiligen Nikolaus mit dem heiligen Leonhard und dem heiligen Wenzel. Zu ihnen treten auf den Flügeln vier weitere Heilige und die vier Evangelisten dazu. Dreht man die inneren Flügel um, erscheinen vier Heilige, davon zwei Bischöfe und zwei Päpste. Zur Fastenzeit, im Advent und zwischen Aschermittwoch und Karfreitag, ist der Altar vollständig geschlossen. Die zweite Wandlung, die dann zu sehen ist, illustriert die Legende des heiligen Nikolaus.
