Description
English: Three precious objects in the so-called 'treasury' of the National Archives in Limburg (Regionaal Historisch Centrum Limburg, RHCL), Maastricht, Netherlands. Top: the deed of October 7, 950, whereby German King Otto I granted the feudal rights of the villages Kessenich and Echt to count Ansfried. This is the oldest document of the Netherlands, kept for centuries in the archives of Thorn Abbey. Below: one of three 15th-century drawings of the church of St Servatius (here the Koningskapel). These are the oldest drawings in the collection. On the right: a daguerrotype of 1844 of Château Neercanne. This is the oldest photograph of Maastricht.
