Description
English: Red Squirrel Sciurus vulgaris with squirrel pox disease - note fur loss on body. In isolated relict population; disease spread by invading alien Gray Squirrels S. carolinensis, which are immune. Disease is lethal to Red Squirrels without intensive veterinary care, animal died within a few weeks of photo being taken. Three Hills wood, Newcastle, southeast Northumberland.
