Description

Bobbi Netling, Interpretive Ranger, gives a guided tour of the Ape Caves in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington.

The cave was formed nearly 2000 years ago from lava streaming down the southern flank of Mount St. Helens. It was discovered in 1950 by a logger and his friends who called themselves Mount St. Helens Apes. (USDA Forest Service photo by Cecilio Ricardo)
