Description
Nederlands: Sphinx-Zuid is het zuidelijk deel van het voormalige fabrieksterrein van Koninklijke Sphinx in Maastricht, ten noorden van de Maagdendries. De foto is genomen vanaf de hoek van twee nieuw aangelegde straten: Rerum Novarum en Dokter Frans Fouquetstraat, waarvan de namen verwijzen naar het industriële verleden. Rerum Novarum was een encycliek van de Rooms-Katholieke Kerk uit 1891, waarin de sociale leer van de Kerk werd uiteengezet. Dokter Frans Fouquet (1822-1908) werkte 25 jaar als armendokter in het Boschstraatkwartier, waar de meeste fabrieksarbeiders woonden. Het onbebouwde terrein links is in gebruik als tijdelijk parkeerterrein. Op de achtergrond De Eiffel, een voormalige sanitairfabriek.
