La rue de l'Humanité se situe au fond à droite de la mairie, côté impair ; un peu plus loin dans cette voie, l'alignement et le profil correspondent au Nºs 8-10-12 actuels de la place Saint Vaast. Manuel du voyageur par karl Bædeker . – Le Nord-Ouest de la France, de la frontière belge à la Loire. Édition de 1908, page 127 : Armentières : «(….) Ville de 28.613 hab., sur la Lys et près de la frontière, centre de l'industrie textile du lin dans la Nord. (….).
