Description
English: 330-PS-8428 (USN 1010431): Commander Jack Morrissey, USN, wearing a full-pressure, high-altitude flight suit of the type Naval Aviators will use when entering the Stratosphere, emerges from a Chance Vought F8U “Crusader” following a test flight at the U.S. Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Maryland. The suite has been tested successfully by the test center and by its manufacturer, the B.F. Goodrich Company, Akron, Ohio. The suite is required for protection against loss of cabin pressure at very high altitudes where exposure to the thin atmosphere would have disastrous effects. It also retains life-saving pressure if a pilot has to bail out at stratospheric altitudes and, in case of a possible ditching in cold water, will keep the pilot afloat and safe from the hazards of exposure. Photograph released March 2, 1957. (12/30/2014).
