Description
English: 330-PS-8590 (USN 709947): This Sun photograph taken at 81,000 feet by the Stratoscope solar telescope-camera shows the variations in the brightness of the turbulent eddies on the Sun’s surface. These Eddies are caused by turbulent motion and differ in temperature by many hundreds of degrees. The hotter Eddies are brighter and the cooler Eddies are darker. This official U.S. Navy photographs was taken at 1/200 at a speed of one one-thousandath of a second. (Note: Sharp white streams and black spots are imperfections in the negative.) Photograph released September 25, 1957. (12/30/2014).
