Description
English: 330-PS-8724 (A-405870): Two Marine Corps Helicopters lift a 1740-pound lantern in place atop a new U.S. Coast Guard lighthouse at Oak Island, North Carolina. The lantern will house a 20-million candle power light and is 14 feet in diameter. The lighthouse will be the most powerful on the east coast. When installed, the huge light will be seen up to 24 miles at sea. Photograph released 18 December 1957. (12/16/2014).
