Summary[edit]

Description 428-GX-K-3416: USS Midway (CV-41), March 20, 1945. At the launching of the newest U.S. Navy giant flat-top, the sponsor was Mrs. Bradford W. Ripley II of Dayton, Ohio. With her is Lieutenant George Gay, USNR, survivor of Torpedo Squadron Eight (VT-8) and hero of the Battle of Midway. Ceremonies were held at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/08/08).
