Description
English: Pictured: A 45 Cdo Royal Marine waits in cover after moving in land during tactical insertion and break contact drills, whilst on BALTOPS Exercise in Latvia. On 07 June 2023, 4 Assault Squadron Royal Marines (4 ASRM) which makes up the bulk of HMS Albion’s permanent Royal Marine Presence, conducted training with X Company 45 Commando Royal Marines (pictured) and their embarked US Marine Corps personnel in Wet and Dry Environmental Rehearsal (WADER) drills in Latvia. This training is vital to ensure that the embarked force is competent in operating with the 4 ASRM boats and Landing Craft in a safe and efficient manner. HMS Albion, deployed in the Baltic Sea, is taking part in BALTOPS 2023 (BO23), the 52nd iteration of the BALTOPS Exercise. BO23 Is a US led NATO military Exercise that focuses on NATO members interoperability in all domains of warfare and trains personnel across the entire spectrum of Naval Warfare, including Anti-Air Warfare, Air-Maritime Integration, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare, Mine Counter Measures, Amphibious Operations and more. BO23 kicks off on the 5thJune with HMS Albion as one of the primary Amphibious Ops capable vessels in the fleet. Made up of over 17 Nations, with over 40 warships, 2 submarines, Amphibious Forces and Aircraft. HMS Albion and her large compliment of embarked Royal Marines Commandos, along with embarked US Marines, will be at the centre of Amphibious Operations in the Baltic over the coming weeks.
