Description

Accession: 59-130-B Spike, Deck, USF Constellation 11"H X 1" Dia Copper

Deck spike removed from the USF Constellation between 15th November 1958 and 27th May 1959. Spike was analysed by the National Copper and Brass Corp and was identified as one of the original from the ship because of the higher gold and silver content present in the spike. The USF Constellation was one of the original six frigates, built at Sterrett Shipyard in Baltimore and was launched on Septemeber 7th 1797.
