Description
English: Heatmap showing the genetic distance of a global array of samples (Y axis) to references (X axis) with smaller distances given as darker colours. Ancestry Mapper utilises a consensus reference represents an average approximated from several individuals from a given population. The overall genetic distance of a sample to these references can be used to examine their ancestry. As can be seen, individuals and populations cluster with Sub-Saharan Africa being the most distant to the rest of the world. Indo-Europeans form a large cluster with South Asian populations forming a subcluster at this scale (At smaller scales clusters within Europe, particularly of the Caucasus and Balkans become more visible) and highly admixed populations, such as Mexicans can be seen to be divided between references for Europe and the Americas.

Another version of Ancestry Mapper was utilised in the Pathomap project to examine environmental DNA. Bacterial and other DNA was processed using BLAST and other methods, the human DNA was examined using Admixture and Ancestry Mapper and compared to the ethnic census results from 2010. http://www.pathomap.org/map/ http://www.cell.com/abstract/S2405-4712(15)00002-2

A future release is coming soon in Python.
