Description 80-G-412537: Iwo Jima Operation, 1945. Twisted steel and shattered concrete mark the remains of a Japanese defensive position in an Iwo Jima hillside, March 1945. Taken by a member of the Steichen unit. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2015/12/28).
