Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_84697_גבעת המורה_04.jpg Notes: מתוך סדרת נופי צומח עצי ושיחי תרבות של עוזי פז. עץ השקד מקדים לפרוח. הוא פורח בטרם העץ מלבלב והוא מרהיב ביפי פריחתו בחורש ובכרמי שקדים מוזנחים במדרגות בהר.העץ נפוץ בחורש בכל האזור הים תיכוני מצפון הארץ ועד הדרום גם בקרקעות גירניות, וכן באזורים הים תיכוניים בהם מעטה כמות המשקעים. שרידים של כרמי שקדים נטושים מצויים בהר. כרמי שקדים מזנים משופרים ניטעו במספר אזורים בארץ, לדוגמה באזור כפר תבור. לשקד המתוק ערך גם כחומר רפואה: השקדים סותרים את חומצות הקיבה, משמשים תרופה נגד שיעול, משחררים ליחה ועוד.
