Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_93134_DSC02237.JPG Notes: א-ריש (כיום תל גיבורים)הייתה שכונה ערבית של יפו ממזרח לשכונת אבו כביר. לפי אחת המסורות קיבל התל את שמו, שמשמעותו "תל הראשים", ב-1775, כאשר קצין מצרי שמרד בטורקים טבח בתושבי יפו וריכז את גולגולותיהם א-ריש היה מוקף במערך ביצורים, כשבמרכז התל מצוי מגדל שמירה מבוצר ומאויש.כיבוש הכפר תוכנן במסגרת מבצע 'חמץ'. התל נכבש אולם חיילי גבעתי נאלצו להורות על נסיגה בעקבות תגבורת ערבית בקרב נהרגו 36 לוחמים וכ-100 נפצעו. אף שתל א-ריש ננטש מלוחמים ערביים מספר ימים לאחר מכן, הבריטים מנעו את השתלטות ההגנה.
