הערות: העיר רמלה הוקמה בידי ערבים - מוסלמים, בין השנים 705 – 715 ,בימי שלטון החליף בן עבד אל-מלכ בונה מסגד אל-אקצא בירושלים. נבנתה על דרך הים ההיסטורית, על חולות. מכאן שמה ("רמל" – חול בערבית). התפתחה במהירות, והייתה לאחת הערים הגדולות בעולם האסלאם. ב-1024 בדווים הרסו את העיר. ב 1038 פגעה בה קשה רעידת אדמה. ב 1099 כבשו הצלבנים, ותושביה ברחו. ב- 1268 כבשו הממלוכים.ב 1295 הכנסייה הצלבנית הוסבה למסגד. ב 1516 עברה העיר לידי האימפריה העות'מאנית. אחרי מלחמת העולם ה-1 וה-2 התרחבה רמלה. התיישבו בה עולים.
