| Description |
Four U.S. Navy Douglas A4D-2N Skyhawk aircraft (BuNo 148445, 148446, 148455, 148470) from Attack Squadron 66 (VA-66) "Waldos" in flight. VA-66 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 6 (CVG-6) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVA-11) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 3 August 1961 to 3 March 1962. 148455 was the personal aircraft of the Commander of Carrier Air Group 6. 148470 was later in service with VA-36, CVW-10, also aboard the Intrepid, and collided with another Skyhawk on 20 August 1968 while returning from mission over North Vietnam. The pilot ejected and was rescued, the other aircraft made a barrier landing. |
