The Freedman, a bronze sculpture by artist John Quincy Adams Ward (1830-1910), created in 1863, cast in bronze, in the collection of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth, Texas (2000.15.A). This image shows a detail of the shackle on the sculpture; inscription reads:

"FORT WAGNER JULY 18TH 1863. 54th Mass. Colored Vols."
