Description
Deutsch: Weihestein des "vicus Matidiarum" an eine unbekannte Gottheit (AE 1977, 567) im LVR-RömerMuseum.
Der Vicus Matidiarum könnte laut Wolfgang Spickermann eine Ansiedlung im Umland der Colonia Ulpia Traiana (heute Xanten) sein (Wolfgang Spickermann: Religionsgeschichte des römischen Germanien. Band 2: Germania Inferior. Mohr Siebeck, Tübingen 2008, S. 224), Peter Rothenhöfer vermutet dagegen ein Stadtviertel der Colonia Ulpia Traiana, das nach Matidia, der Nichte des Stadtgründers Trajan, benannt worden sei (Peter Rothenhöfer: Rezension zu Wolfgang Spickermann: Religionsgeschichte des römischen Germanien. Band 2: Germania Inferior (Tübingen 2008). In: Bonner Jahrbücher. Band 209, 2009 (2011), S. 435–438, hier S. 437). Andere Forscher ergänzen die letzten Zeilen als "vicus Mati[aco]/rum(?)", und vermuten darin Personen (etwa Händler) aus der Gegend von Aquae Mattiacorum, dem heutigen Wiesbaden, die sich in der Colonia Ulpia Traiana aufgrund ihrer gemeinsamen Herkunft in derselben Nachbarschaft zusammengeschlossen hätten (so etwa Hans-Joachim Schalles: Epigraphisches vom Niederrhein. In: Grabung – Forschung – Präsentation (= Xantener Berichte. Band 14). Philipp von Zabern, Mainz 2006, S. 85–129, hier S. 91 f.).
