Description
English: A Page of Birds. St. Petersburg Muraqqa. The pictures of the birds were assembled from various sources and periods; green background with flowers and sky added in Isfahan to cover joins. That is why this painting is essentially a collage. It includes a fine and important study of the long extinct dodo (Raphus cucullatus, Linnaeus 1758) which belonged to emperor Jahangir. This image is dated to circa 1615 and attibuted to Ustad [master] Mansur. The bird at the top right, the Western Tragopan, can be attributed to Muhammad Baqir.
