Summary[edit]

Description A row of tall late Georgian Houses of subtly different heights and with front gardens — Montpelier Row in Twickenham. The rich red dressings around each window and door are supplemented by multiple bays of windows across each floor and fair to tall ceiling heights. Thin, hedged front gardens here have railings set in brickwork and ball finials. Adjoining estates belonged to the exiled Duc d'Orleans, Duc d'Amande and his entourage, and various esteemed owners of Marble Hill (originally the direct family of an acknowledged royal mistress); others included the Amyand family, surgeons royal to George II and at York House further dignitaries such as the Lord of the Manor of Twickenham for a time, when Orleans Park was built instead nearby for the local, removed French royals. At the end of the row some white stucco differentiates the row still further.
