Summary[edit]
DescriptionA hully in the rocks at Porthgwarra - geograph.org.uk - 850723.jpg |
English: A hully in the rocks at Porthgwarra Hullies or ullies are apparently unique to Porthgwarra in this country. They are depressions in rocks in the intertidal zone, partly natural and partly man-made by positioning boulders and mortaring them in place. They would have had a hinged wooden cover and the steel mountings for some of these are still visible. The hullies were used to store live shellfish catches, keeping them fresh ready for sale. |
