QAJAR IRAN, 19TH CENTURY

Possibly 'Aja'ib al-Makhluqat or a work inspired by it, with dedication to Fath 'Ali Shah Qajar, 95ff., each folio with 12ll. of black nasta'liq script, text arranged in one or two columns, framed with black-ruled gold divisions, catchwords, with three gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, including numerous illustrations in gouache and watercolours of grotesque beasts and animals, one full page illustration of Majnun in the desert, with catchwords, Iranian export stamps dated AH 1340, one folio missing, old damage and repairs, in Qajar floral lacquered papier-mache binding
