| Description |
English: A moorhen and the Shropshire Union Canal. A moorhen runs for cover above the Northgate flight of locks. I understand that hidden beneath the large metal plate in the towpath there is a flight of steps to enable a horse to escape from the water if it should fall in. The narrowness of the towpath through the deep sandstone cutting between here and Cow Lane Bridge may have meant that such events were common in the days of horse-drawn boats. Canal Street House and other buildings are reflected in the water. See also 747681 |
