Der Aachener Dom wurde 1978 als erstes deutsches Kulturdenkmal unter Nr. 3 in die Welterbeliste der UNESCO aufgenommen. Abgebildet ist der mehr als 1200 Jahre alte Zentralbau, bestehend aus Sechzehneck und Oktogon. Die Grundsteinlegung des Baus der karolingischen Renaissance erfolgte im Jahr 796.
