Nederlands: Akamatsu is een van de Japanse marineofficieren die in 1862 naar Nederland komen om de bouw van het stoomschip Kaiyo-maru te volgen, dat in opdracht van de Japanse regering wordt gebouwd. Sommigen van hen krijgen lessen in zeevaarttechnieken van Nederlandse marineofficieren. Akamatsu blijft langer in Nederland dan zijn medestudenten, en woont een tijdje in een huis aan de Amsterdamse grachten. Wanneer Tokugawa Akitake (1853-1910) in 1867 naar Parijs reist om de Japanse regering te vertegenwoordigen op de Parijse Expositie regelt Akamatsu krediet voor hem. Akamatsu blijft bij de marine, om uiteindelijk tot viceadmiraal bevorderd te worden. English: Akamatsu was one of the Japanese naval officers who came to the Netherlands in 1862 to follow the construction of the steamship Kaiyo-maru, which was being built by order of the Japanese government. Some of them attended courses in navigation techniques given by Dutch naval officers. Akamatsu stayed in the Netherlands longer than his fellow students and lived for some time in a house along the Amsterdam canals. When Togukawa Akitake (1853-1910) went to Paris in 1867 to represent the Japanese government at the Paris Exposition, Akamatsu saw to his accreditation. He remained with the Japanese Navy and was finally promoted to vice-admiral. |
