Summary
[edit]DescriptionAlcock brown landing site.jpg |
English: The landing site of the pioneering transatlantic flight of Alcock and Brown, and adjacent memorial cairn. The first non-stop transatlantic flight crash-landed four kilometres south of Clifden, County Galway, Ireland on June 15 1919. There is a memorial cairn around four metres in height on the site of Marconi's first transatlantic wireless station, five hundred metres from the crash site. The inscription on the cairn reads "Alcock and Brown, landing site, 500 meters" with an arrow pointing towards the bog in the centre of the picture. |
