Title
English: Alki Point lighthouse, Seattle, ca. 1925
Description
English:

A light identifying Alki Point for passing ships began with a simple kerosene lantern in the 1850's. The U.S. Lighthouse Service improved it in 1887, and the lighthouse station that stands today began operating in 1913. This postcard shows an illustration of the Alki Point Lighthouse in the mid-1920's.

MOHAI, finding this image on a postcard sent in 1926, dates it circa 1925. Seattle Public Library, with no specified provenance, dates it circa 1913. Since not much would have changed about the appearance in that time, and photographer Frank H. Nowell was active throughout that period, there is really no basis to determine which is more accurate.
