Summary[edit]

Description
English: Flavian Lady. The striking hair style for ladies was fashionable during the reign of the Flavian emperors Vespasian, Titus and Domitian from 69-96 (and a few years beyond). Just above the base the bust is ornamented with acanthus leaves, indicating that it was a funerary sculpture. It probably stood in a so-called columbarium, a wall with niches for cinerary urns. The very young lady wears a tunic with a pallium (cloak) draped over it. Marble, end 1st century AD (inv. 17.670)
Nederlands: Flavische dame. Het opvallende kapsel voor vrouwen was in de mode onder de Flavische keizers (Vespasianus, Titus en Domitianus) en iets daarna. Aan de onderkant van de portretbuste zijn acanthusbladen afgebeeld, wat erop wijst dat dit een grafbeeld is, vermoedelijk voor een columbarium, een muur met urnen. Ze is nog heel jong, en draagt een tunica met een pallium (mantel) er overheen gedrapeerd. Marmer, eind 1e eeuw n.Chr. (inv. 17.670)
