Description
English: Portrait of Contessina de' Medici (1478-1515), daughter of Lorenzo de' Medici
"Unlike the other women represented in this series, Contessina is shown without a motto or impresa. No contemporary portrait of the sitter survives and the portrait appears to derive from a 16th-century type known in two versions. The print is most comparable to the portrait now in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence (inv. Oggetti d'Arte, no. 712), where Contessina also appears with a lace frill around her neck, without pearl earrings, and with a more sober expression than is shown in the other version of the portrait at Poggio Imperiale (inv. Imp 321). For images of the portraits see K. Langedijk, "The Portraits of the Medici," Florence, 1981, vol. I, p. 381, under no. 23." [1]
