Description
Deutsch: Ehemaliges neues Schulhaus in Gönningen, Schwäbische Alb. Das Gebäude wurde mit dem Sedimentprodukt des Holozän, „Kalktuff“, aus dem lokalen Fluss Wiesaz errichtet. Der Kalktuff hat vorzügliche Eigenschaften als witterungsbeständiger, gut isolierender Baustoff. Im „bergfeuchten“ Zustand (weich) ist er leicht bearbeitbar (mit Säge und Beil). In der kleinen, alten Stadt stehen noch einige weitere Kalktuffbauten.

English: Former new school building, Gönningen, Schwäbische Alb. The local river Wiesaz sedimented huge quantities of this sub-type of tufa (“Kalktuff”). It is a very frequent holocene material on the Swabian Jura. The material has excellent properties as building material: Easy to form blocks, which are weather resistant and well insulating.
