Summary[edit]

Description

Amanita westii (Murrill) Murrill

Image location: Diamondhead, Hancock Co., Mississippi, USA

No specimen available Notes: I found these in a state park on a nature trail the follows the Jourdan River in Hancock county Mississippi. The trail is right along the river so the soil is very sandy and there are lots of oaks, hickory, and pine trees. The gills are a white color when in the button and juvenile stage, then the gills turn black. The flesh stains a dark reddish color when cut open, i neglected to take a picture of it cut open. After I cut it I did notice an anise smell.
