Amboise (Indre-et-Loire)
La rivière l’Amasse, encore visible rue Racine, alimentait un marécage. Devenue insalubre, la rivière fut recouverte au XIXème siècle. La crue de 1856 a été le déclencheur de grands travaux pour réduire les risques d'inondation de la ville. Les deux bras de l'Amasse ont été couverts, rue quai des Marais, rue de Verdun, le long du quai De-Gaulle. La volonté d'assainir la zone de marécages semble ne pas avoir attendu le XIXème siècle : A partir de 1489, Charles VIII entreprend des travaux pour rendre le logis royal plus habitable. Un document, daté de 1489, mentionne le "transport d'une immense quantité de terriers, depuis le pied du château jusqu'aux marais qu'il s'agissait de combler". |
