Description
English: Travel chest used by Norwegian-American Mathias Rasmussen Hole (1877-1962), most probably bought in the US for a visit back to Norway.
Norsk nynorsk: Amerikakoffert.

Opphavleg museumstekst:

Kista er mest truleg kjøpt av Mathias Rasmussen Hole (1877-1962) i USA. Mathias reiste til USA i 1901 med planar om å reise heim etter fem år. Banken hans gjekk desverre konkurs og det tok over 40 år, før han reiste tilbake til Noreg på besøk. I løpet av den tida hadde Mathias slått seg opp som farmar og hadde kjøpt seg ein gard i North Dakota.

På kista heng det ein passasjerlapp. Det er frå ein tur med skipet DS Stavangerfjord frå New York til Bergen i 1952. Kista stod att hos familien i Noreg då Mathias reiste tilbake til USA i 1953.
