| Description |
English: An ancient cross on the edge of The Thicks. Langley Cross used to have a curse on it according to which Langley Hall would be gutted by fire if it were ever removed from its original site near Langley Abbey > 1342980. It was Sir Thomas Beauchamp Proctor, whose family had owned the Langley estate for centuries, who moved the cross into Langley Park after Abbey Farm was destroyed by a fire in 1801. The cross now stands on the edge of a woodland called The Thicks, just west of Langley Hall (now a boarding school) > 1551153 where it marks the boundary of four parishes: Langley, Chedgrave, Thurton and Carleton St Peter. It is believed that the cross dates from the 15th century or earlier. Its original location was just outside the abbey precincts. |
