Description

Antigny (Vienne)

L’Eglise Notre–Dame-de-l’Incarnation.

L’église édifiée au XIe siècle sur une ancienne nécropole mérovingienne a été remaniée aux XVe et XVIIIe siècles.

Notre-Dame apparaît pour la première fois dans un acte du pape Lucius III daté de 1184, comme dépendance de l'abbaye de Saint-Savin.

Une chapelle, la chapelle sainte-Catherine, a été rajoutée sur le flanc sud de l'église, en 1421, par Renaud de Mauléon, seigneur de Bois-Morand. Cette chapelle a été prolongée vers l'ouest, par un porche construit au XVIIIe siècle.

L'église a conservé sa façade romane avec une porte à trois voussures surmontée d’une petite baie.

Sur le parvis, à droite de la porte, une dalle soutenue par des colonnettes gothiques remployées, la “pierre des morts”, sur laquelle on déposait le cercueil des défunts avant l'entrée dans l'église.

A gauche de la porte, un bloc rocheux avec une cavité carrée; il pourrait s'agir d'un socle d'une croix disparue.
