Summary[edit]

Description
English: Anvil stones These glacial anvil stones were placed in Bloxwich Park around 1915 to celebrate the awl blade and needle manufacturing carried out in the area for the leather industry.

It is dedicated to the 'Bitties'(bit-makers) and 'Tackies'(tack-makers). These trades flourished in Bloxwich from the late eighteenth century but employment dropped off rapidly in the early twentieth century with the advent of motor transport. Bloxwich was close to Walsall the centre of the saddlery industry.

The monument has had a chequered history and it is a wonder that it has survived at all. http://www.thebloxidgetallygraph.com/anvilstones.htm
