This map shows what areas in the Southern Appalachians meet the climactic criteria of a temperate rainforest.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This map of the Eastern United States shows what areas meet the climactic definition of a temperate rainforest: 
- High annual rainfall (at least 1400 mm)
- Cool year-round temperatures (4 to 12°C average)
- Wet summers (at least 10% of total precipitation occurring during the summer months)
- Moderate July temperatures (dark green less than 16°C, medium green less than 18°C, lightest green less than 20°C)

While only the darkest green meets Alaback's original 1991 definition, later definitions have broadened the July temperature limits, including a 2011 book by DellaSala, Alaback, and others.

Map created in ArcGIS Pro using open access data from worldclim.org. All climate data used was at 30 arcsecond resolution.
