Arati Tagore (1937 – 1979) Arati Tagore was born in Guwahati, Assam, 25th June 1937. She was the daughter of Dr. Dinanath Sharma, who was the recipient of Nehru Award and was also the founder editor of the famous Assamese journal “Awahan”. Arati Tagore’s husband was Late Shri Shubho Tagore, who a famous artist, journalist, poet, collector and the editor, Publisher of the famous Bengali art journal “Sundaram”. They have three children, Chitralekha Sen Tagore, Siddhartha Tagore and Sundaram Tagore. Arati Tagore’s brother is Dr. Dilip Sharma, a famous musician in Assam. Her other brother is Deepak Sharma who is now settled in Norway and her other sisters Minati Bye and Awanti Flatabo are also settled in Norway. Arati Tagore was also a famous singer from Assam and used to sing for All India Radio in 1950’s and 60’s and she had also had disc with HMV. She also wrote many novels in Assamese, the famous one being “Lohitor Pare”. She had also translated many books from English to Assamese and Bengali for American Library. The famous one was “The Autobiography of Wright Brothers”. Arati Tagore was also a journalist and used to write for Hindustan Times, Sunday Magazine and for Assamese journals. She was one of the jury member of the award committee for films and was also the member of Film Censor Board in mid 70’s till her death. She died on 16th August 1979.
