Asteraceae disk floret diagram

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Diagram depicting a disk floret structure of family Asteraceae. The disk floret is bisexual with female parts (one pistil containing one style, two stigmas, and an ovary with one ovule) and male parts (stamen, anthers, and filaments). Labeled parts are as follows:

1 – two stigma lobes, shown separated (if fused, the stigma would appear as an extension of the style);

2 – style;

3 – five anthers fused to form a tube which surrounds the stamen; not viewable on the inside of the tube are the stamen which produces pollen and the filaments which are fused to the corolla;

4 – corolla with 5 lobes;

5 – reduced calyx (after seed maturity, this forms the pappi);

6 – ovary containing one ovule.
