18063 Attic red - figured stamnos. Donated by the Kynazia family. It was probably found in a grave in Marathon and had been used as a funerary urn. Helen's first abduction by Theseus: Theseus is leading Helen to the chariot already prepared by Peirithoos. At the right Phoibe, Helen's sister, sees her off. Over the ftouree\ inscriptions, once painted in white, are discernible ΘΕΣΕΥΧ, HELENE, ΠΕΙΡΙ(θ)ΟΣ, ΦΟΙΒΑ Work of the painter Polygnotos Ca. 430-420 B.C. National Archaeological Museum, Athens, Greece. --- 18063 Αττική ερυθρόμορφη στάμνος. Δωρεά της οικογένειας Κυριαζή. Βρέθηκε πιθανώς στον Μαραθώνα σε τάφο και είχε χρησιμοποιηθεί ως τεφροδόχος κάλπη. Απεικονίζεται η πρώτη αρπαγή της Ελένης από το Θησέα: Ο Θησεύς οδηγεί την Ελένη στο άρμα που έχει έτοιμο ο Πειρίθους. Δεξιά η αδερφή της Ελένης, Φοίβη, την αποχαιρετά. Πάνω από τις μορφές με λευκά άλλοτε γράμματα διακρίνονται οι επιγραφές ΘΕΣΕΥΣ, ΗΕΛΕΝΕ, ΠΕΡΙ(θ)ΟΣ, ΦΟΙΒΑ. Εργο του αγγειογράφου Πολυγνώτου. Γύρω στο 430-420 Π.Χ. Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο. Αθήνα. |
