Deutsch: Georg August Gaul (* 22. Oktober 1869 in Großauheim - heute ein Stadtteil von Hanau; † 18. Oktober 1921 in Berlin), deutscher Tierbildhauer.
Eselreiter, 1912, Bronze. – Der Esel, für dessen Reiter der Sohn Gauls Modell stand, gilt als seine erfolgreichste Großplastik. August Gaul hat davon fünf Güsse anfertigen lassen. Die Plastik "Eselreiter" steht außer im Städtegarten Frankfurt noch im Vestibül des Rathauses Spandau, in der Österreichischen Galerie in Wien und im Park des ehemaligen Gutshauses Märkisch-Wilmersdorf. Verschollen ist ein Exemplar, das im ehemaligen Park des Rittergutes Hirschfelde stand. English: Georg August Gaul (born October 22, 1869 in Großauheim - now a district of Hanau, died October 18, 1921 in Berlin), German animal sculptor. Donkey rider, 1912, bronze. – For the rider, Gaul's son stood model. The sculpture is considered his most successful large-scale sculpture. August Gaul had five casts made: (1) Frankfurt, City Garden; (2) vestibule of the Rathaus Spandau, Berlin; (3) Austrian Gallery in Vienna; (4) in the park of the former Manor House of Märkisch-Wilmersdorf. (5) A copy formerly in the park of Rittergut Hirschfelde is believed to have been lost. |
