Summary[edit]
DescriptionBallycarry station (1977) - geograph.org.uk - 1014074.jpg |
English: Ballycarry station (1977) Ballycarry station opened in 1862 and, as well as serving Ballycarry village (from which it was remote) was a railhead for Islandmagee. It was a block post with a passing loop. It had a station building incorporating the stationmaster's residence and a goods yard with store and loading bank. By the mid-70's NIR (and the Larne line in particular) was at its nadir. The station house, down platform and goods yard (right) had been sold. The up platform (left) had the semi-derelict remains of the waiting room (with a peeling timetable from 1966) and the closed signal cabin (with the steps removed). The locally-built railcars were not noted for quality of their ride or soundproofing. The train is the 13.05 Belfast (York Road) - Larne Harbour. See also 1014095. |
