Description
English: Banana puri is similar to phyllo pastry, thin layers of pastry is a South African version of the Indian Khaja , recipe has been modified by South African Indians. It’s an intricate process of rolling and layering dough then deep frying in oil / ghee then drained on paper towels for a few days and then drizzled with a thick sugar syurp. It’s intricate and delicate prosses makes it a difficult pastry to master hence making it a much coveted treat in South Africa. It’s very popular at the Hindu festival of Diwali and a must have at Indian weddings as well as Eid.
