| Description |
English: Tradition holds this was the arms of Robert Romille, of the Norman Conquest, who founded Skipton Castle, Yorkshire ca 1090. It is seen as part of the heraldic coat of arms of the town of Skipton which is surmounted by a griffin holding a banner behind a castle. Some describe it as "a banner barry of eight Or and also Gules" however the red bars are sometimes depicted on white not yellow.[5] The yellow fielded banner would be for Robert main force and the white fielded banner would be for his wing force. |
