Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bark Store, Church Lane, Botley. The old Bark Store, together with the stone quays that survive (see 221895) is a legacy of the river port that existed during the years Cobbett was at Botley. Extract from Hampshire County Council minutes of October 1998 "The Bark Store was acquired by the County Council in February 1993 at nil consideration pursuant to a planning agreement made in respect of adjoining land which has since been intensively developed for housing purposes. The purchase included 0.21 ha (0.52 acres) of land located on the banks of the upper tidal reaches of the River Hamble, and known as the Parish Quay....The building was used to produce wooden hoops required in the manufacture of barrels in the 18th and 19th centuries, these being essential to the local economy and Armed Forces."
