Description
English: Baron Munchhausen

Record number: 23061602 Artist: Herrfurth, Oskar (German, 1862-1934) Item caption, front: Münchhausen / O. Herrfurth, pinx. Item caption/descriptive text, back: Münchhausens Abenteuer. 2. 2. Once Münchhausen rode into the countryside in the dead of winter night, grew tired, and tied his horse to a sharp stick. After a deep sleep he awoke the next morning to find himself in the middle of the cemetery, with his horse tied to the top of the church tower. The previous evening the village had been snowed over, but the snow had melted during the night. The stick to which he thought to tie his horse had been the weathercock. Now he took his pistol, shot through the horse's halter, and was able to continue his journey at a gallop. Uniform title: Dimensions: 141 x 93 mm. A shot from his pistol frees the horse, and the Baron continues his journey. Subject headings: Churches; Horses
