Record number: 23061608 Artist: Herrfurth, Oskar (German, 1862-1934) Item caption, front: Münchhausen / O. Herrfurth, pinx. Item caption/descriptive text, back: Münchhausens Abenteuer. 10. 10. During his Turkish captivity, Münchhausen had to tend the beehives. But bears wanted to get the honey. Münchhausen smeared the drawbar of a wagon with honey. During the night a bear came and started licking, not stopping until the entire shaft went through its gullet, stomach and abdomen. As it emerged from the bear's rump, Munchausen stuck a large nail through the pole and thereby caught the bear. The Grand Sultan almost laughed himself to death at the sight.
