Summary[edit]

Description

Combles, gros bourg abrité au milieu d'un cercle de collines, était le centre de la résistance allemande au nord de la Somme. La localité communique avec la route de Péronne à Bapaume par un chemin facile.

D'autres voies rayonnent sur Morval, Ginchy, Guillemont, Hardécourt, Maurepas, Le Forest et Rancourt. Combles, par cette situation particulière, était donc un point stratégique important.
